Stand With Ukraine – Weekend of Community Support
On Friday morning last week, our Brackley Town Councillors; Cllr Sue Sharps, Cllr Elaine Wiltshire, Cllr Scott Langford, Cllr Kate Nash and Cllr Luke Young helped organise a coffee morning in the Civic Hall to raise money for the ongoing Ukraine conflict. An amazing attendance from residents and community groups from Brackley meant that a total of £1,313.55 was raised. Thank you to our councillors who helped pull together this event at short notice and all the wonderful bakers who contributed cakes to sell.
In addition to this, on Sunday morning, a civic service was held at St Peter's Church where Brackley Town Mayor, Cllr Don Thompson welcomed visiting Mayors and Mayoresses from Highham Ferrers, Rushton and Raunds, along with members of the community and voluntary organisations. During the service, organist Ian Blunsdon performed along with the Brackley Jubilee Choir. Brackley Town Football Club and Brackley Rugby Union Football Club also spoke about the work they do in supporting our community. Brackley Youth Engagement young representative, Millie Kirby was asked to attend by the Mayor, along with Edward Frape BYE (South Northants Youth Engagement) Trustee.
The collection from Sunday's service was originally going towards the Mayor's charities, however it was decided by the Mayor and Reverend to add the collection to amount raised at the Stand with Ukraine coffee morning instead. This added an extra £216.00 bringing the total figure to an outstanding £1,529.55.
Thank you to everyone who attended both events over the weekend and generously donated money towards the Ukraine community. A fantastic community effort.
