Bus Route X91 comes to an end
Information received from Northamptonshire County Council
From Monday 2nd November, service X91 will be revised and will no longer service Brackley.
Service X91 is funded primarily by section 106 contributions from Brackley, Silverstone and Towcester designed as a fast service to facilities in Central Milton Keynes.
When the original X91 contract ended last November after two years and it was clear that the service was not generating the usage we had hoped, a revised service was put in place that retained a broadly two-hourly service between Silverstone, Towcester and Milton Keynes but only peak hour journeys and a single daytime journey would run to/from Brackley.
We have been reviewing the usage of this service and, using data from three weeks prior and after the Christmas school holidays in 2019/20, it has shown that only 5-6 passengers were boarding in Brackley per day. This level of usage is not sufficient to justify continuing to fund the extra resource to extend the service to Brackley.
The service between Silverstone, Towcester and Milton Keynes will be retained and this is being retimed so as to dovetail with the currently-reduced service 88 and provide a co-ordinated hourly service during the day between Silverstone and Towcester. The service will also be extended to Dadford Road for Silverstone racing circuit in order to serve the new Heritage Centre once this is operating normally.
A draft revised timetable is attached which includes part of service 88 for reference.
Brackley and Towcester will continue to be linked by service 87 daily for shopping trips and the same service provides a direct link from Brackley to Northampton both peak and off-peak.
