Don Cox 1934 - 2019
It is with deep regret we announce the death of Donald G Cox, former Town Councillor and Mayor. He past away earlier this week in Northampton General Hospital, after being ill for some time.
We understand that "Don" and his family originally came from Syresham. He did national service with the Royal Air Force, and later worked in a civilian role at RAF Croughton for many years and took early retirement when both RAF Croughton & RAF Upper Heyford downsized in the late 1980's /early 1990's.
Don was a member of the Council for many years and "chaired" several committees over this time. He served as Town Mayor in 1981/82 and again in 1993/94. After stepping down as a Councillor, he took on the role of Mayor's Macebearer for several years.
He was a founder member a past Chairman of the Brackley European Association, took an active role in the local Derby & Joan Club, the Brackley & District Band Club and a Brackley branch of the Northamptonshire Association for the Blind. He was also a former Trustee & Chairman of the Brackley Almshouses Trust.
In the spring, Don and his sister Sheila came along to the opening of the Town Council's "Egerton Hall" on Poppyfields Way and he was able to meet up with many of his former Councillor friends and other local residents.
Currently there are no funeral details available.
Our thoughts go out to his family and in particular, his sister Sheila.
