Town Council Petitions House of Lords on HS2

Brackley Town Council submitted a petition against HS2 to the House of Lords in April and was summoned to appear before the Select Committee on 13th July. Having succesfully petitioned in the House of Commons and gained concessions regarding sound barriers on the elevated section of the A43 (planned to go over the line to the north of the town), the petition this time concentrated on the effect on the town of the construction traffic. The Town Clerk and Cllr Mark Morrell argued that an additional 1370 HGV's per day on to the Buckingham Road roundabout would have a significant impact on the town and asked that the Town Council be included in discussions regarding the traffic management arrangements for the A43. The Committee ageed that this would be appropriate in the circumstances.
