Year 3 Meet the Mayor

Year 3 from Brackley Junior School recently met the Mayor, Cllr Bernie Tiller, as part of their Brackley tour.
They gathered outside and listened carefully as the new Mace Bearer, Michael Anderton, explained his role. Although now largely ceremonial, the position originally involved acting as the Mayor’s bodyguard, carrying a much less fancy wooden club to ward off attackers and keep the Mayor safe!
The children then sat quietly in the Civic Hall, enjoying Cllr Tiller’s stories about Brackley, the Town Hall, and his role as Mayor.
The visit ended with some fantastic questions, including, “Why is there a clock on the Town Hall?”, “How old is Brackley?”, “Do you make laws here?”, and one curious little one even asked if the Mayor was rich - a fair question given the regalia!
We were very impressed with Year 3 during their visit. A lovely, well-behaved, and polite group with inquisitive minds - just what we love to see from the youth of Brackley. Keep it up Year 3, and who knows, maybe one day you could be Mayor!
