Winter Drink & Drug Driving Campaign - 2025

Northamptonshire Police has launched its annual winter campaign to tackle drink and drug driving, running throughout December and into the New Year. The month-long initiative, called Operation Limit, aims to raise awareness of the serious consequences of driving under the influence and encourage safer choices on the roads during the festive season.
The campaign includes extra patrols, proactive operations, and roadside checks at various times, including early mornings, to catch drivers who may still be impaired from celebrations. Drivers charged with drink driving may also be named on the Police website and social media.
Detective Chief Inspector Shelley Nichols said even small amounts of alcohol or drugs can affect driving, and urged people to plan safe transport if they are drinking. Last year, 94 people were charged with drink driving and 39 with drug-driving offences in Northamptonshire during the festive campaign period.
Residents are reminded to never drink or take drugs and drive. Suspected drink or drug driving can be reported confidentially to Northamptonshire Police on 101, to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or in an emergency dial 999.
