UK Emergency Alerts Test - Sunday 23 April

Posted in Residents' Information

On Sunday 23 April 2023 at 15:00, there will be a national test of the UK Emergency Alerts service.

As seen in other countries, Emergency Alerts help keep you safe if there is an immediate risk to life by sending an alert direct to your mobile phone. Emergency Alerts is a UK government service that will warn you if there’s a danger to life nearby. In an emergency, your mobile phone or tablet will receive an alert with advice about how to stay safe.

The test alert will be sent to most mobile phones across the UK. Devices will make a distinct, siren-like sound for up to 10 seconds, including on phones switched to silent mode. Phones will also vibrate and display a message about the test.

Remember:

  • The alert is a test.
  • It will be automatically sent to your mobile device.
  • Your device will wake and make an alarm sound.
  • The alarm can be dismissed.
  • The government does not need to know your phone number or location to send you an alert.
