Help Shape the Future of Nature Recovery

Posted in West Northamptonshire Council

Residents, landowners, farmers and community groups are being encouraged to share their views on West Northamptonshire’s first Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) before the consultation closes on 25 March. Introduced under the Environment Act 2021, LNRSs are being developed across England to help reverse biodiversity loss and restore ecosystems. The strategy for West Northamptonshire, led by West Northamptonshire Council, sets out priorities and opportunities for protecting, restoring and connecting habitats to benefit wildlife, people and the wider environment.

The draft strategy includes a local habitat map identifying existing habitats and areas where nature could be restored or expanded, alongside a statement of biodiversity priorities and actions for the future. It will help guide decisions by councils, landowners, developers and funding bodies, while supporting wider benefits such as climate resilience and flood management.

Participation is voluntary and the strategy does not change land ownership, but it provides a coordinated plan for improving nature across the area. Residents are encouraged to take part in the consultation and help shape how nature recovery is delivered locally.
