Chairman's Debating Competition 2026

West Northamptonshire Council is inviting Sixth Form teams from across the area to take part in the 2026 Chairman’s Debating Competition, offering young people the chance to showcase their skills, challenge ideas, and build confidence in front of a live audience.

The competition, now a much-anticipated annual event, brings together teams from schools and colleges across the region. Magdalen College School in Brackley has consistently delivered impressive performances, with students demonstrating sharp thinking and persuasive arguments. Other participating schools in past years have included Northampton Academy, Northampton International Academy, Northampton College, and The Duston School.

Debate Mate supports the event by running workshops to help students develop their debating skills ahead of the competition and providing professional judges on the day to ensure a high-quality and engaging experience.

The competition will take place in February 2026, following a skills webinar in January. Schools are invited to register their teams by emailing chairman@westnorthants.gov.uk before Friday 19 December 2025.
