Brackley European Association – Town Twinning

Brackley Town has been twinning with Pavillons-sous-Bois (a suburb of Paris) since 1972. The Town Council celebrated the 40th anniversary with a weekend of activities with visiting French guests in May 2012. As always they stayed with families in and around Brackley for their weekend visit.

Three years later, in 1975, a similar arrangement was established by the Town Council with the German town of Montabaur. Their 40th anniversary was organised by Brackley European Association and celebrated in September 2015 in Brackley. Visits were arranged to the Lord Leycester Hospital in Warwick, the Hill Close Gardens and a tour of the Mercedes Petronas facility in Brackley along with a guided history walk along Brackley's High Street and Market Place. A Civic luncheon was hosted by the Town Mayor in the Town Hall, attended by the Lord-Lieutenant for Northamptonshire, the High Sheriff, a number of Brackley Town Councillors, Mayor of Montabaur and members of the Brackley European Association with their guests from the Montabaur twinning association. Gifts were exchanged between the two Mayors and the original charter was renewed and signed by them.

The Brackley European Association is a lively and friendly group of volunteers who take on the responsibility of sustaining the town's twinning activities on behalf of Brackley Town Council. They operate on a self-funding basis, paying their own travelling expenses and raising funds to entertain our twinning colleagues when they visit Brackley. All Brackley residents and those from neighbouring villages are eligible to join. Monthly meetings are held on the last Thursday of each month.

Twinning visit to Pavillons-sous-Bois 2019

15 member of Brackley European Association visited Pavillons-sous-Bois over the weekend on 28th June until 1st July 2019, arriving late afternoon on Friday having travelled by coach and Eurostar.

On the Saturday it was an early start into the heart of Paris on an extremely hot day to visit the Senate. We enjoyed a 2-hour tour of the offices and chamber and a look at the office of Senator Phillipe Dallier followed by champagne. This was followed by a delicious meal in one of the entertainment rooms. After a walk we caught the coach back to Pavillons-sous-Bois.

The evening saw us entertained in Le Peniche which is a canal boat on dry land by the canal which was set out for food and drink, a very enjoyable evening.

The next day we had a later start and went to a Brie maker for a look around and a tasting of the various types of Brie. Of course, we had to then purchase some to bring home before being taken to a restaurant by the river Marne for lunch of Pate, Duck and Nougat gateau. The Friday evening and the Sunday evening were free to spend time with our hosts.

We travelled back on Monday late morning after another superb weekend.
